Amid an escalating water crisis in the national capital, Delhi Assembly’s Leader of Opposition Atishi has written a strongly worded letter to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, slamming the BJP-led government for its “inaction and gross negligence.” Atishi has sought an urgent meeting between AAP MLAs and the Chief Minister to discuss the worsening water situation that is affecting lakhs of residents across Delhi.

Capital Faces Disruption in Water Supply up to 24 Hours
Atishi accused the BJP government of failing to provide basic amenities, stating that water supply in several areas has been cut off for as long as 24 hours. Despite widespread public distress, she said, the government and its ministers have maintained complete silence.

“Citizens are receiving messages about water cuts, women are lining up at tankers, children are waiting with buckets, and families are buying bottled water just to survive. This is fast becoming Delhi’s new identity,” she wrote.

Four-Engine BJP Government, Yet No Water
Highlighting the presence of BJP governments at multiple levels Centre, Lieutenant Governor’s office, MCD, and now the Chief Minister’s post Atishi questioned the party’s commitment to governance. “Despite a four-engine BJP government, people are still struggling for something as basic as drinking water,” she stated.

She further warned that if the crisis is this dire in May, the situation could become catastrophic as temperatures continue to rise in the coming months. “Is the BJP government planning to leave Delhi’s water needs to divine forces now?” she asked sarcastically.

Call for Immediate Dialogue and Action

Calling the crisis not just a logistical failure but a humanitarian issue, Atishi urged CM Rekha Gupta to meet AAP MLAs at the earliest. “This is not just an administrative shortcomingit reflects the government’s indifference to its people’s suffering,” she said.

The AAP leader concluded her letter with an appeal to uphold democratic norms and engage with elected representatives to find an urgent resolution to the crisis.
