The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has exposed the BJP government’s deceptive tactics to project a cleaner Yamuna ahead of Chhath Puja. AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj shared a video of Uttar Pradesh’s Eastern Canal, originating from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage, lying completely dry. He pointed out the BJP governments in Delhi and Haryana have blocked UP’s canal water and diverted it into the Yamuna to create a temporary illusion of clean water during the festival—an attempt aimed at avoiding public anger over pollution that could cost the party in the upcoming Bihar elections.

Senior AAP leader and Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Thursday shared a video on X exposing “BJP’s deceit” over Yamuna pollution control. He stated that the BJP governments in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have manipulated the flow of water from the Hathnikund Barrage to create a temporary illusion of cleaner Yamuna water for Chhath celebrations
Yamuna’s pollution ahead of Chhath
“BJP’s lie has been caught. To reduce Yamuna’s pollution ahead of Chhath, the BJP stopped the UP canal’s water flow. Haryana’s BJP government diverted all water meant for UP farmers from Hathnikund into the Yamuna. The BJP governments are so fearful of Chhath that they want to somehow reduce the river’s pollution for just three or four days. By blocking water in the Eastern Canal, one can see how far BJP governments can go for false propaganda,” said Saurabh Bharadwaj.
Purvanchalis for over a decade
He pointed out that the BJP has been deceiving Purvanchalis for over a decade. “For the last 10–11 years, BJP has been dishonest with Purvanchalis. Their politics stoops so low that it’s beyond imagination. For years, under a planned conspiracy, BJP made Purvanchalis yearn to celebrate Chhath on the Yamuna banks. Before every Chhath, additional water used to be released from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage into the Yamuna. This diluted the polluted water from the Najafgarh drain, reduced froth, and made the river suitable for Chhath rituals,” he said. Saurabh Bharadwaj explained how the diversion is being carried out: “At the Hathnikund Barrage, it is decided how much water will flow into the canal going to Uttar Pradesh and how much into the Yamuna. Since Tuesday, BJP’s government has brought the flow of the Eastern Canal down to zero. As a result, UP’s farmers are not getting water for irrigation. But to serve its propaganda, BJP has diverted all the water into the Yamuna. The Yamuna now has full flow while the Eastern Canal has dried up. The extra canal water entering Yamuna will make it appear cleaner. Then they will spray defoaming agents to remove the froth. This is BJP’s entire conspiracy,” he asserted.
