Senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has urged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to immediately roll out relief measures for thousands of flood-affected families in Delhi. The Delhi Assembly LoP has demanded that every adult in affected households be given ₹18,000 based on minimum wages, while farmers who lost their crops must be compensated at ₹20,000 per acre, citing how AAP’s Punjab government has already extended such support. Atishi further stressed that children should be provided notebooks and textbooks without delay, and special relief camps must be set up to reissue crucial documents lost in the floods. Highlighting the grim conditions in government relief camps—without food, water, electricity, or sanitation—she said families now live in fear and uncertainty, waiting to see if the government will finally step in to help them.
AAP Leader Atishi Raises Alarm Over Government’s
In a digital press conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi said, “This time, Delhi has faced floods during the monsoon. Thousands of families in Delhi have seen their homes submerged in water. This morning, I received a call from Reena Devi, a resident of Yamuna Bazaar. She was weeping uncontrollably on the phone. After the water level receded, when she returned home, she found nothing left.” All her household belongings had been swept away. Her children’s books were gone, utensils washed away, mattresses lost. Whatever furniture or items survived were lying submerged in water for 10 days and are now completely ruined. Her children’s original documents were destroyed. Crying on the phone, she asked me, ‘What will I do? We have not been able to go to work for 10 days. We have no money in hand. Nothing is left in the house’,” she added.
Atishi Appeals to Delhi Government for Immediate
The Delhi Assembly LoP noted that this is not just the story of Reena Devi and her family, but of thousands of flood-affected families across Delhi. Though the water level has gone down, nothing remains in their homes. “On behalf of all such families, I appeal to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for help. CM Rekha, you are the Chief Minister of Delhi. It is your responsibility to help these families. This is not about one family—it is about thousands of families who have not been able to go to work for the last 10 days, who have not earned a single rupee, and on the other hand, have nothing left in their homes to use,”she pointed out. Atishi stated, “People are fearful because the government did not provide proper help at the relief camps. There was no water, no cleanliness, no electricity, and no proper food. The worry and pain of these thousands of families is whether the government will now come forward to help them.”
