The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on BJP President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, demanding accountability in the wake of the massive bribery scandals recently exposed in the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
Key Accused Linked to PM’s Inner Circle: Congress
Addressing the media at the AICC headquarters, senior Congress leader Onika Mehrotra pointed out that Dr. Jitu Lal Meena a former member of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board is at the centre of the NMC scam. Allegations suggest that large sums were accepted from private institutions in return for NMC recognition. Mehrotra claimed Meena’s meteoric rise from a rural doctor in Gujarat to a powerful figure in the NMC was enabled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as both Gujarat Chief Minister and now as PM. “How can the Prime Minister remain silent when someone so closely linked to him is at the core of such a massive scandal?” she asked.
Why Is JP Nadda Not Named in FIR?
Mehrotra raised serious concerns over why JP Nadda, who oversees the Health Ministry, has not been named in the FIR despite the scandal emerging from within his ministry. “Was the Union Health Ministry entirely unaware of these activities, or was it complicit?” she questioned, emphasizing that such systemic manipulation including rigged inspections, biometric fraud, and online approval irregularities could not have occurred without higher-level approval.
Demand for CBI Probe Into Political Links
Calling for an impartial and thorough investigation, Dr. Mehrotra pressed the CBI to explore connections between the accused and senior BJP leaders. “Will the CBI dare to summon JP Nadda or investigate his role? Can such a widespread racket unfold under his watch without his knowledge?” she said.
Call for Resignation and Accountability
Mehrotra urged Prime Minister Modi to seek JP Nadda’s resignation from both his posts Union Health Minister and BJP President noting the irony that Nadda often highlights the expansion of medical education in India. “Now we know how these new seats were being created through corrupt, unauthorized institutions,” she remarked.
Bigger Than Vyapam: Congress
Labeling the scams in NMC and PCI as more severe than the infamous Vyapam scam, Dr. Mehrotra stressed that these revelations are not minor lapses but a deep-rooted crisis within the system. “This isn’t just corruption; it’s a complete breakdown of regulatory integrity in the medical education sector,” she concluded.
