Heightened Activity in Delhi Amid Border Tensions
Amid escalating tensions along the Pakistan border, top security officials convened urgently in Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval paid an unscheduled visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. This high-level meeting also included the chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force and lasted for nearly an hour. Following the meeting, Rajnath Singh remained in discussion with the Prime Minister for an extended period. This marks the fourth time Singh has met PM Modi since the Pahalgam attack, and the second time within just 12 hours.
PM Modi to Chair CCS Meeting Again
In response to the Pahalgam incident, PM Modi has called another meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) — the second in quick succession. The CCS is the highest decision-making body on national security matters and will evaluate possible responses. Prior to this, Rajnath Singh had a 40-minute meeting with the Prime Minister and had separately held discussions with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and service chiefs. Multiple options are reportedly under review, indicating that the government is preparing for a significant response.
Service Chiefs Brief PM on Security Strategy
CDS General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh participated in the discussions. The presence of the military leadership underlines the seriousness of the security deliberations and the formulation of a coordinated strategy.
Beyond a Terror Attack: Larger Plot Suspected
Prime Minister Modi reportedly believes the Pahalgam attack may not be an isolated act of terrorism but part of a broader, orchestrated conspiracy. The meeting likely reviewed intelligence inputs and strategic options for India’s next steps. The timing and execution of the attack point toward potential involvement or support from across the border.
