Kanhaiya Kumar Slams Bihar Government, Says “Double Engine Rule Arrogant and Anti-Student”
New Delhi: Congress Working Committee member and NSUI in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar strongly condemned the brutal police lathi-charge on aspirants of the BPSC teacher recruitment exam in Patna. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and a full audit of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, Kanhaiya Kumar termed the crackdown as a reflection of the arrogance of Bihar’s “double engine” BJP-JDU government. He accused the state government of failing to provide employment opportunities and instead choosing to silence student voices through repression. “This is not the first time aspirants in Bihar have been met with violence,” Kumar said. “Students are continuously subjected to police brutality for raising their legitimate demands. The government, drunk on power, refuses to listen to them.” Highlighting the worsening unemployment situation in Bihar, Kumar said the state’s jobless rate exceeds the national average, with rural areas facing even grimmer conditions. “Instead of creating job opportunities, this government is raining lathis on youth,” he remarked. He further alleged that while students struggle under inhumane conditions to build a better future, their efforts are dismissed when it comes to job recruitment. According to Kumar, BPSC has consistently acted unjustly towards aspirants, including recent irregularities in the TRE-3 teacher recruitment results. He noted that in several instances, the same candidate was selected for multiple positions, yet the government refused to address this despite repeated student protests. “Meritorious candidates should be given a fair chance instead of allowing duplicity in selection,” he stated. Kumar claimed that over 400,000 posts remain vacant in Bihar, with nearly 200,000 unfilled in the education sector alone. He also criticized the deteriorating state of higher education in Bihar, where even completing a basic degree takes nearly five years.
